We are a few weeks away from the end of the first decade of the 21st century, and the readers of Rolling Stone have just announced the band that has defined this decade, is Green Day.
Green Day won the readers poll for best album of the decade, American Idiot, best song of the decade, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and best artist of the decade.
Now, these are not the choices of the legendary music magazine, just it’s readers, whom all appear to be under the age of 18. The magazine’s picks, however, weren’t much better.
Gnarles Barkely’s “Crazy,” for best song of the decade. Of the decade? I’m not even sure if it was the best song of June 2006.
Radiohead’s Kid A took the honors of best album.
As for best artist, Rolling Stone has yet to answer that question. But who cares? The once iconic publication has slipped into the realm of teen sensation.
So what’s the best music magazine of the 21st century? I don’t know, probably Green Day.
