A band that I haven’t heard much about in awhile is the band Seether who I fucking love. And after some surfing around, I just learned today that Seether is from South Africa. You learn something new everyday!

Formed in 1999 in Johannesburg, South Africa Seether is: Shawn Morgan, Dale Stewart, John Humphrey, and Troy McLawhorn. Seether truly found fame after the single, “Broken”, collaborated with Evanescence’s Amy Lee hit the US. Also the song “Sold Me”, was on the soundtrack of the 2004 film The Punisher which ended being extremely successful. Both songs helped fame find Seether, although according to Morgan the band was not completely ready for what fame entailed.

The album Karma and Effect was released in 2005 and debuted at Number 8 of the US Billboard 200 album and was certified gold in the US and Canada. The album had many singles, including, “Remedy”, “Truth”, and “The Gift.”

In 2006 the lead guitarist, Pat Callahan, left the band for unknown reasons. And then later that year, Morgan checked in to rehab for alcoholism forcing the band to cancel the tour with Staind and Three Days Grace.

In late 2007, Seether released “Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces”, which again had huge success with singles, “Fake It” and “Rise Above This.” After Callahan left the band in 2006, Troy McLawhorn of Dark New Day came to the rescue to become the new official member of Seether.

In early 2009, the new song titled “No Shelter” was listed on the NCIS Official TV Soundtrack and a cover of Wham!’s “Careless Whisper” was released to fans. The music video for “Careless Whisper” was launched on June 15, 2009. For their ten year anniversary Seether will start from the beginning with a DVD with footage from the start. In an interview in early 2009, Morgan stated that he would take the rest of 2009 off to write music. An expected 2010 album is expected early in the year.

Great cover! I hadn’t heard anything by Seether for a few years now, so it was interesting to read up about what they’ve been doing in the last couple of years. I deifnitely look forward to hearing their new album in 2010!
