For over twenty years Paradise Lost has pushed the boundaries of music into their darkest direction. Pioneers of death/doom and gothic metal, Paradise Lost give a surprisingly accessible 12th studio album. Faith Divides us, Death Unites Us was released last October and is on it’s way to finding the Halifax, England veteran rockers an entirely new audience.
The album doesn’t sacrifice the sound that Paradise Lost has become known for, but instead, injects it with some simple melodies that drown in the crashing waves of sound.
The video of the title track gives a good feel for the entire the album. It is dark, but beautiful. The terrifying melodies entrance you as a single face occupies the screen for nearly the entire length of the video. The light changes, and the camera shakes, and I have never been so terrified. Whoever the actress is who lip syncs the deep, brutal, but melodic vocals deserves an Oscar for her portrayal of fear.
The album includes to orchestral mixes by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. And if you want an even more authentic appeal, limited copies will be released on vinyl.
Paradise Lost has continually pushed their musical limits and have not lost one step in the twenty plus years that they have been together. They are currently touring around Europe and have recently released another video from the album, “The Rise of Denial.”
