Social Distortion will go into Foo Fighter’s Studio 606 this February to record a new album to be released in Spring 2010. Mike Ness’ Social D has been bringing the world their tough-as-nails, working man’s rock and roll since the late 70’s. However, they’ve only released six albums during their career. Their self-titled, third album (their first on a major label) gained them mainstream success in 1990 and many since have tried to imitate (to no avail) their no-frills, rockabilly tinged, freight train style of punk rock. Unfortunately, even the band itself was never able to produce an album of the same potency again.
Since gaining mass popularity, Ness has started a solo career and continues to tour regularly with Social Distortion, but has only released three more albums with the band. So the excitement about the news of a follow up to their last release, 2004’s Sex, Love and Rock and Roll, is quite understandable. Despite recent upsets in the last few years (original bass player, Brent Liles, was killed by a semi and long time drummer, Charlie Quitana left the group) Ness sounds positive about going back into the studio with Social Distortion. The band has already finished recording several songs for the new album, which Ness claims will be “very rock and roll.”
