Madleaf – Sinners

Madleaf, Sinners, band, rock music, Velvet, Into the sun, greek rock band, album review

Madleaf is a intensely talented “All Star Band” from Athens Greece. After meeting in a tattoo parlor they had the epiphany of seeing a leaf falling from a tree. The name “Madleaf” grew out of that experience. The band consists of Jim Lord (vocals), Nick (guitars), Dorian (bass) and George (drums). They began recording their album “Sinners” in 2007 and released it in January 2008. They chose to release the album initially on I tunes and other on-line stores as a digital edition (mp3). Later their Label Poison Tree Records released it as a CD.

Fans of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam will enjoy the sound and recognize the influence of those bands on Madleaf.

In their best tune on the LP the lead singer, confronts the fallen nature we all have and holds out the promise of “a better day for you”. This song echoes the call to us as sinners as strong as “Put your lights on” by Everlast and Santana. The vocal is a powerful, soulful reminder of Eddie Vedder and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains.

The song “Velvet” seduces the listener with intensely rhythmic guitar strokes. Then it sends “Goose Bumps down my spine” as the powerful heavy guitar riffs kick in. Once they trap you in they ask, “Hey now where you gonna go…” The songs title is deceptive because the song the music is anything but soft.

Into the Sun” leads you into the tune with a brisk and perky guitar rhythms and then blows you away with power packed vocals blasting the Solar powered sound into your face. The vocal quality of the Lord on this one is on par with many of Creeds tunes such as “What if” or “One Last Breath”.

Madleaf has delivered a modern day Greek Classic for fans the the Seattle grunge rock movement. They have the potential to write new pages of Rock history themselves. Watch Madleaf’s official video below.
