Last month the third single from the Lacuna Coil album Shallow Life was released. The song “I Wont Tell you,” had the highest debut ranking for the band, as well as for the Century Media Company. “I Wont Tell You,” quickly became a staple on radio stations across the country.
Lacuna Coil is heavily promoting the new album with their tour, videos, and t.v. appearances. Recently, the band has performed an acoustic version of the song “I Wont Tell You,” on Altitude television which showed the bands growth, and talent as songwriters.
The bulk of the Shallow Life album is more accessible then previous albums. I wouldn’t call it pop, but the gothic metal has been subdued into an aggressive alt. rock. “It’s definitely different,” says Cristina Scabbia in an interview with Rock Sound, “The songs are definitely more powerful, more complete, more intense, more straight to the point.”
The album definitely has a new found focus on songwriting and the third single, “I Wont Tell you,” demonstrates the bands ability as songwriters, but may take away from the devastating sound that diehard fans are used to.
It can be argued to whether the band is stepping forwards or backwards. Shallow Life is an album comprised of cleaner songs that are sure to appeal to a larger audience. But is clean what we want from Lacuna Coil?
The Italian band will be in the states until the New Year, then they head overseas to continue their European Tour.
