Has Puddle of Mudd dried up?

Puddle of Mudd, VH1, MTV

At the start of this century there was one big Puddle of Mudd. The band was every where. From 2001 to 2007 their videos got regular play on MTV, they sold millions of records, and toured extensively. The past few years though have showed a downturn in the bands ambition. In 2001, Puddle of Mudd signed onto Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst’s Label, Flawless Records. Puddle of Mudd may have taken a little too much from Fred Durst’s mentoring, and committed to his philosophy of achieving an amazing level of success, and then fading into obscurity. Or maybe they have just reached a plateau, and are satisfied.

Their official websites latest news is a January, 2009 appearance on the Carson Daily Show. But Puddle of Mudd’s career is not finished yet. They are still touring, but not as often and not to nearly as big of crowds as they used to. In the beginning of September they will be playing a few shows including the Rib America Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the Arts, Beats, and Eats Festival in Pontiac, Michigan. They do have a stadium show on the 10th of September to help the Philadelphia Eagles kick off their football season.

So is that it for the once hailed rock gods? Has Puddle of Mudd reached it’s peak, and fallen to the sub standard of, oh yeah I used to listen to those guys in high school?I hope not, but it’s hard to deny when you hear people saying it.
There are rumors, however, about a new album coming out. Puddle of Mudd is said to have teamed up with producer Brian Howes, (Hinder, Skillet,) as well as reinstated former guitarist Paul Phillips into their lineup. There is also talk of front man Wes Scantlin to be releasing a solo album.

I’ll wait for official word before I reinvite Puddle of Mudd into the rock world. But maybe there is life enough in the band to reestablish them as one of Rocks premier acts.
